West Virginia HB4872 amends the Code of West Virginia to provide guidelines for reinstating retired Deputy Sheriffs to their former departments. The reinstatement is at the discretion of the sheriff and is subject to certain conditions. Eligible applicants must have served more than six months, have no pending charges of misconduct, seek reinstatement within five years of resignation, reside in the same county, and pass a medical and psychological examination. If successfully reinstated, the applicant will be the lowest in rank in the sheriff’s office.
