HB4788

Allow school board members to run for the state legislature

Introduced·1/23/26
Intr Text

Allows school board members to run for state legislature while retaining their school board position.

This bill amends the Code of West Virginia to allow currently serving members of county school boards to retain their position during a campaign for state legislature. It prohibits these members from engaging in certain political activities, such as soliciting political contributions or endorsing candidates. Members must complete orientation and annual training, and the state board can exclude time spent in training on school performance issues from the required twelve hours. The bill also establishes a County Board Member Training Standards Review Committee to oversee training standards.
