HB4535 protects specific property classes from creditor collections for West Virginia residents.

HB4535 amends the West Virginia Code to exempt certain assets from creditor collections, including head of household wages up to the federal or state minimum wage, applicable cash surrender value of life insurance, the first $5,000 of assessed value of a homestead, tax advantage retirement accounts, disability or death benefit income, prepaid college funding accounts, and social security income. These protections apply to permanent residents of West Virginia.
