HB4435

Increasing the percentage of precincts to be audited during the election canvass

Introduced·1/16/26
Intr Text

Increases the percentage of precincts audited during election canvass and extends the timeframe for candidates to demand a recount.

This bill amends West Virginia election laws to increase the percentage of precincts audited during the election canvass from three to ten percent. It mandates that at least ten percent of precincts be chosen at random and the voter-verified paper ballots be counted manually. If the manual count differs by more than one percent from the automated vote tabulation, discrepancies must be disclosed to the public and all voter-verified paper ballots shall be manually counted.
