HB4139

Allow female inmates to work on state convict road crews.

Introduced·1/14/26
Intr Text

Allow female inmates to join state convict road crews in West Virginia.

This bill amends the West Virginia Code to make female inmates eligible to work on state convict road crews. Previously, only male inmates were allowed to participate in the state convict road force. The bill ensures that all inmates, regardless of sex, can be employed in building, surfacing, and maintaining roads under the supervision of the state road commissioner. However, it maintains the restriction that no road crew can be composed of both male and female persons.
