SB6234

Regulating sewage grinder pumps for new residential buildings.

Introduced·1/20/26

Regulates sewage grinder pumps for new residential buildings in Washington.

The bill prohibits water-sewer districts, counties, and cities from banning sewage grinder pumps in new residential buildings under specific conditions. These conditions include buildings located below grade of a public sewer line, connected to a low-pressure sewer system, at a distance where gravity cannot effectively move wastewater, or in new residential communities where geologic site conditions or excessive topography cannot support a gravity sewer system. A sewage grinder pump is a system that collects, grinds, and pumps residential sewage into the public sewer system.
