The bill creates a grant program administered by the Department of Labor and Industries for farms growing handpicked specialty crops. The grants aim to promote hiring local workers, reduce transportation pollution, and strengthen food sovereignty and climate and disaster resiliency. To qualify, farms must sell or donate crops locally, hire only domestic workers, and be owned by a state resident. Each eligible farm can receive up to $40,000, equivalent to eight weeks of paid overtime during peak harvest.
