Allows certain Washington state teachers and school employees to transfer from Plan 3 to Plan 2 of the retirement system.
This bill provides an opportunity for members of the teachers' retirement system plan 3 and school employees' retirement system plan 3 who were never offered a choice of plan 2 to irrevocably transfer to plan 2 for future service. Specifically, it allows those who joined plan 3 between July 1, 1996, and June 30, 2007, to make the transfer during any January after the effective date of this section. The transfer is irrevocable and the legislature retains the right to modify or discontinue this option. Previously retired members from plan 3 are not eligible for this transfer.
