The bill establishes a First Peoples' Language, Culture, and Oral Tribal Traditions Teacher Certification Program in Washington. This program is to be implemented by the Professional Educator Standards Board in collaboration with sovereign tribal governments. It also sets up teacher residency and apprenticeship programs. Residency programs must be formal partnerships between school districts or state-tribal education compact schools and board-approved teacher preparation programs. Apprentices must receive 2,000 hours of on-the-job mentored teaching experience.
