This bill allows candidates and elected officials to use their campaign and surplus funds to reimburse themselves for legal fees and lost earnings incurred in response to ethics complaints. Legal fees can be reimbursed if they relate to a citizen action or ethics complaint, investigation, or hearing concerning the candidate or elected official in their official capacity. Lost earnings must be verifiable as unpaid salary or, if not salaried, as income received for services rendered during the corresponding time period.
