Washington HB1034 prohibits health plans from disadvantaging nonopioid drugs for pain treatment starting January 1, 2026. This includes not designating nonopioid drugs as nonpreferred if opioids are preferred and avoiding more restrictive prescription drug practices for nonopioids than opioids. The Department of Health must also create an educational pamphlet on nonopioid alternatives for pain treatment by January 1, 2026.
