Virginia HB1385 amends the Code of Virginia to allow the governing board of each public institution of higher education to hire or retain legal counsel for all legal services. This includes appearing in court, entering into contracts, purchasing and selling property, and providing legal advice. The Attorney General may represent certain individuals in civil matters. The governing board must ensure that any legal counsel hired using public funds is hired solely upon the request of the affected individual.
