Vermont S0186 amends the jurisdiction rules for plea agreements in juvenile offender proceedings. It allows a juvenile offender to choose to enter a plea agreement in the Criminal Division for certain offenses, rather than automatically transferring the case to the Family Division. If the juvenile opts for a plea agreement in the Criminal Division, that court retains jurisdiction. Otherwise, the case will be transferred to the Family Division. The changes take effect on passage for some sections and on July 2, 2027, for others.
