This bill, known as "Jessica’s Law," expands the definition of emergency personnel to include law enforcement officers, Department of Corrections employees, Family Services Division employees, and employees in State-operated therapeutic community residences or inpatient psychiatric hospital units. It extends survivors’ benefits to the families of these personnel who die while in the line of duty. If the deceased is not survived by a spouse, children, or parents, the Board shall not award a monetary benefit.
