Vermont S0036 requires the Agency of Human Services to provide Medicaid coverage for medically necessary long-term residential treatment for beneficiaries with substance use disorder and a co-occurring mental health condition. The treatment must be prescribed by a licensed health care professional and the program must participate in Vermont’s Medicaid program. Coverage cannot be less than 30 days if the substance use disorder can be addressed by medication for opioid use disorder, or 60 days if it cannot. This act takes effect on July 1, 2025.
