Vermont H0509 approves an amendment to the City of Winooski charter to authorize the City Council to adopt an ordinance governing the eviction of residential tenants. The ordinance will include protections from eviction without just cause, such as a tenant’s material breach of a written rental agreement, violation of State statutes, nonpayment of rent, or failure to accept written, reasonable, good faith renewal terms. The ordinance will also exclude the expiration of a rental agreement as the sole grounds for termination of tenancy and exempt certain properties from these protections.
