Expands survivor benefits to include law enforcement officers.
This bill amends Vermont law to extend the same monetary benefits currently available to survivors of firefighters and emergency personnel to survivors of law enforcement officers. The Emergency Personnel and Law Enforcement Officers Survivors Benefit Review Board will determine eligibility for a $80,000 payment. The payment will be made to the surviving spouse, child, or parent of the deceased officer. The Emergency Personnel and Law Enforcement Officers Survivors Benefit Special Fund will be used for these payments. The act takes effect on July 1, 2025.
