Utah SB0227 amends the Utah Code to define "motor vehicle" and sets limits on punitive damages and attorney fees for personal injury claims involving motor vehicles. The bill caps punitive damages at the greater of two times the economic damages plus noneconomic damages up to $750,000, or $200,000. It also limits attorney fees to 25% of the punitive damages awarded. The changes take effect on May 6, 2026.
