Utah HB0113 amends the criminal offense of emergency reporting abuse by adding new penalties. A violation of Subsection (2)(a) is a second degree felony if the report is regarding a weapon of mass destruction. A violation of Subsection (2)(b) is also a second degree felony. A violation of Subsection (2)(c) is a class B misdemeanor, except under certain conditions. The bill also includes provisions for courts to order reimbursement for costs incurred in responding to false reports and mandates community service or jail time for offenders. This bill takes effect on May 6, 2026.
