Born in Springfield, Missouri, she was the youngest of five children and graduated from Central High School. She attended Drury University and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Barbara married Dorsey Adam Love and had three daughters, Julie, Lili, and Carolea, and was also a grandmother to seven and great-grandmother to twelve.
