The Texas Senate resolves to recognize March 4, 2025, as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Day at the State Capitol. Alpha Phi Alpha, founded at Cornell University in 1906, was the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established by African Americans. The fraternity has a history of civic engagement and addressing educational, economic, political, and social injustices faced by African Americans and people of color. Many notable civil rights leaders, including W. E. B. Du Bois and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., were members.
