Texas SB940 allows certain school districts to appoint a nonvoting student trustee to their board of trustees.
Texas SB940 amends the Education Code to allow the board of trustees of certain school districts to appoint a student trustee. This student trustee can attend and participate in board meetings but may not vote or affect the outcome of any votes. The student trustee is not counted in determining whether a quorum exists. The board of trustees determines the manner and term of the student trustee's appointment. This change takes effect September 1, 2025.
