Texas SB901 prohibits candidates from running in multiple party primaries or conventions in the same election cycle.
Texas SB901 amends the Election Code to declare candidates ineligible if they file for a place on the ballot or nomination by convention with more than one political party in the same voting year. Such candidates are barred from appearing on the general primary election ballot, nomination by convention, and the succeeding general election as an independent, party nominee, or write-in candidate. The Secretary of State must notify ineligible candidates and provide them an opportunity to withdraw. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
