Texas SB526 mandates the use of green stormwater infrastructure in new state buildings.
Texas SB526 amends the Government Code to require the use of green stormwater infrastructure in the construction of new state buildings. This infrastructure, which includes rain gardens, bioswales, permeable pavement, green roofs and walls, and rain barrels, is designed to absorb and treat rainwater to limit erosion, habitat damage, property damage, and water pollution. The changes apply to new state agency building contracts or construction projects solicited after the effective date of the Act, which is September 1, 2025.
