Texas SB296 modifies driving safety and motorcycle operator training course dismissal procedures.
Texas SB296 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to change how driving safety and motorcycle operator training courses are handled in court. The judge must require a defendant to complete an approved course if they are eligible for dismissal. The court can also require a reimbursement fee of up to $10 for each eligible offense. If a defendant completes the course and meets other requirements, the court must dismiss the charge. The changes apply to defendants with a Texas driver's license, members of the U.S. military, or their dependents. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
