Texas SB2757 limits detention durations for children in juvenile court and mandates a study on detention effects.
Texas SB2757 amends the Family Code to limit the duration of a child's detention following a detention hearing. A detention order can extend to the conclusion of the disposition hearing, but no more than five working days. Subsequent detention orders are limited to five working days, or seven in counties without a certified juvenile detention facility. The initial detention hearing cannot be waived, but subsequent hearings may be waived under certain conditions.
