SB2592 allows counties with over 250,000 residents to abolish and re-employ their purchasing agents.
SB2592 amends the Local Government Code to allow counties with populations exceeding 250,000 to abolish the office of a purchasing agent and hire a new one. The commissioners court can make this decision by order, and the term of any purchasing agent whose office is abolished expires on the date specified in the order. The former purchasing agent is eligible for re-employment under the new order. The bill takes effect immediately if approved by two-thirds of the members in both houses, otherwise it becomes effective on September 1, 2025.
