Texas SB2497 allows the commission to mandate filtration systems for public water supplies from underground sources.
Texas SB2497 amends the Health and Safety Code to allow the commission to require a public drinking water supply system that obtains its water supply from an underground source to install a filtration system for the well for that source. This requirement applies if the commission has previously recommended the installation and if the public water system has not maintained the well according to commission rules or has received more than one complaint about that source in the previous year. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
