Texas SB2196 amends the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure to change the duration an emergency protection order remains in effect. An order issued under Subsection (a) or (b)(1) remains in effect up to the 91st day but not less than 61 days after issuance. An order issued under Subsection (b)(2) remains in effect up to the 121st day but not less than 91 days after issuance. The issuing court may modify an order if it finds the original order is unworkable, the modification will not place the victim at greater risk, and it will not endanger a protected person.
