Texas SB2178 restricts state agencies from using appropriated funds to support news media, nonprofits, or private events.
Texas SB2178 amends the Government Code to restrict state agencies from spending appropriated funds to sponsor, partner with, donate to, or otherwise financially support news media or nonprofit organizations, as well as private events. Exceptions apply if the expenditure is specifically authorized by state law or the state constitution, or if it is reasonably related to the agency's duties and functions. The bill also allows agencies to use funds for purchasing subscriptions to newspapers or periodicals and for employee continuing education courses related to their employment.
