Texas SB200 modifies the Family Code to assign any support rights attributable to a child to the state upon placement in substitute care by the department. However, it also allows a relative or other designated caregiver to receive support and benefits on behalf of the child. The department is required to facilitate the assignment of support rights to the caregiver and designate the caregiver as the representative payee for programs and payments, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits. This Act will take effect on September 1, 2025.
