Allows certain small school districts to reduce their board of trustees from seven to five members.
This bill amends the Education Code to allow the board of trustees of certain small school districts to decrease the number of trustees from seven to five. This change can occur if the board certifies to the commissioner that in the two preceding trustee elections, the board was unable to fill all trustee seats. The transition to a smaller board takes effect with the next regular election of trustees and does not shorten the term of any trustee in office. The bill specifies that the transition must be managed so that trustees are eventually elected according to Section 11.059.
