This bill amends the Education Code to mandate that one of the assessment instruments for fifth-grade students must evaluate essential knowledge and skills in social studies. The change takes effect starting with the 2026-2027 school year. If the bill receives a two-thirds vote in both houses, it can take effect immediately. Otherwise, it will take effect on September 1, 2025.
