Texas SB1736 allows a fee for processing electronic payments for motor vehicles, with limits and disclosures.
Texas SB1736 amends the Finance Code to allow a fee for processing electronic payments for motor vehicles. The fee must be reasonably related to the processing expense, not exceed $10 or five percent of the payment amount, and cannot establish electronic payment as the expected form of payment. Before accepting an electronic payment, the holder must inform the buyer of the fee amount and that alternative payment methods without a fee are available. This change takes effect September 1, 2025.
