Amends the composition of local mental health authority governing bodies in Texas.
The bill amends the Health and Safety Code to change the composition of the governing bodies of local mental health authorities in Texas. For local authorities serving one county, the sheriff of that county becomes an ex officio nonvoting member. For local authorities serving two or more counties, two sheriffs are chosen as ex officio nonvoting members. Additionally, a veteran must be selected by a majority of the governing body members. Each local mental health authority must select a veteran to serve on the governing body by December 1, 2025. The changes take effect September 1, 2025.
