Texas SB143 amends the Education Code to require public schools to designate certain uniform election dates as staff development days. Specifically, if a public school campus is selected for use as a polling place on the date of a presidential general election, the school district or open-enrollment charter school must designate the day as a staff development day. The commissioner is also required to provide a waiver allowing the minutes of instructional time to be reduced by the number of minutes the district or school is required to suspend instruction in compliance with this section.
