Texas SB1331 allows voters to repeal a municipal civil service system for firefighters and police officers in certain municipalities.
Texas SB1331 amends the Local Government Code to allow voters to repeal a municipal civil service system for firefighters and police officers in municipalities with populations under 70,000. If the governing body receives a petition signed by at least 10% of qualified voters, an election is ordered. If a majority votes to repeal, the system is void in that municipality. The change applies only to petitions for which an election has not been ordered before the Act's effective date.
