This bill amends the Texas Penal Code to increase criminal penalties for certain offenses committed in the course of or for the purpose of avoiding federal or state law enforcement checkpoints or evading arrest or detention. It raises the punishment for offenses that are misdemeanors or state jail felonies to the punishment for a felony of the third degree if committed while avoiding a checkpoint or evading arrest. The changes apply to offenses committed on or after the effective date of the Act.
