Texas SB1016 amends the Education Code to adjust student union fees at The University of Texas at El Paso. The board of regents can levy fees up to $150 for semesters of 10 weeks or more and $75 for shorter terms, for financing, constructing, operating, maintaining, and improving student union buildings. Before the 2026 fall semester, fees are capped at $70 for longer terms and $35 for shorter terms. For the 2026-2027 academic year, fees can be up to $120 for longer terms and $60 for shorter terms. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
