The House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature commemorates the 150th anniversary of Huston-Tillotson University, founded in 1875 as Tillotson Collegiate and Normal Institute. The historically Black university, located in Austin, has evolved from a junior college and women's college to a senior, coeducational institution. It merged with Samuel Huston College in 1952 and was renamed Huston-Tillotson University in 2005. The university, with over 1,000 students, offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and is led by President and CEO Dr. Melva K. Wallace.
