The House of Representatives of the 89th Texas Legislature recognizes February 18, 2025, as Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas Day at the State Capitol. The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe, originally two tribes, migrated westward into East Texas in the 1760s. They fought for revolutionaries in the Mexican War of Independence and later aided Texan forces in the Texas Revolution. The tribe was granted land by Sam Houston and now has a reservation with recreational areas, a casino, and an annual powwow.
