Galvan was a talented musician, educator, and community leader. He played clarinet in the 1947 All-State Band, served in the United States Air Force, and managed the Galvan Ballroom and Galvan Rental. He was also president of Sembradores de Amistad of Corpus Christi, a founding member of the Westside Business Association, and pivotal in creating the Texas Jazz Festival.
