The Texas House of Representatives congratulates Officer Dominique Akins of the Allen Police Department for receiving the 2025 State of Texas Law Enforcement Achievement Award for Valor. Officer Akins was on-site during the May 6, 2023, active shooter incident at Allen Premium Outlets, where he quickly armed himself and joined other officers. Within four minutes of the attack, he spotted the gunman, fired three shots, and successfully killed him, preventing further bloodshed. The gunman had over 500 rounds left in his car.
