Sara Vela, a resident of Mission, passed away on November 19, 2021, at age 50. She was born in McAllen and graduated from Mission High School in 1990, later earning a degree in interdisciplinary studies from South Texas College. Vela worked for Hidalgo County and was active in local politics. She was a devoted aunt to her niece, Dehra, and nephews, Daniel and Aaron.
