Texas HB899 amends Article 46B.0825 of the Code of Criminal Procedure to mandate that sheriffs or their deputies ensure continuity of psychotropic medication for defendants discharged from a facility or program. The sheriff must ensure the defendant takes prescribed medication unless directed otherwise by the jail physician. The jail physician must document any changes in medication. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards shall reimburse sheriffs for medication costs, subject to available funds. This Act repeals Article 46B.0825(c) and takes effect September 1, 2025.
