Texas HB871 adopts the International Residential Code and International Building Code as municipal building codes, effective January 1, 2026.
Texas HB871 amends the Local Government Code to adopt the International Residential Code, as it existed on May 1, 2021, as the municipal residential building code. It also adopts the International Building Code, as it existed on May 1, 2021, as the municipal commercial building code. Municipalities may review and consider amendments made by the International Code Council to these codes after May 1, 2021. These changes apply only to construction, remodeling, alteration, enlargement, or repair that begins on or after January 1, 2026. Prior to this date, existing laws continue to apply.
