Texas HB5626 amends the Labor Code to establish the right of an employee to unpaid leave for organ or bone marrow donation or to receive a transplant. Employees must notify their employer in writing as soon as practicable. The leave entitlement is up to 90 working days per calendar year, whichever is less than the requested leave. Employees must take leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act concurrently if applicable. Employers violating this law commit an unlawful employment practice. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
