Texas HB5383 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to establish new requirements for the appointment of a medical examiner and the employment of deputy medical examiners. The medical examiner must be appointed from individuals with training and experience in anatomic and forensic pathology, toxicology, histology, and other medico-legal sciences. Deputy medical examiners must hold or be eligible to hold a certification in anatomic pathology and forensic pathology issued by the American Board of Pathology.
