Texas HB531 amends the Election Code to restrict device use near voting stations.
Texas HB531 amends the Election Code to prohibit the use of wireless communication devices and any means to record images or sound within 100 feet of a voting station. However, it allows individuals occupying a voting station to use their wireless devices to access ballot or candidate information downloaded or created before entering the polling place. The presiding judge may post notices about these device restrictions at polling places. If the bill receives a two-thirds vote in both legislative houses, it takes effect immediately; otherwise, it takes effect September 1, 2025.
