Texas HB5204 modifies the definition of low-volume livestock processing establishments and exempts certain poultry processors from additional state.
Texas HB5204 amends the Health and Safety Code to redefine low-volume livestock processing establishments. These are establishments that process fewer than 10,000 domestic rabbits, more than 1,000 but fewer than 10,000 poultry, fewer than 400 domestic swine, fewer than 800 sheep, fewer than 1,000 goats, or fewer than 100 cattle in a calendar year. Notably, it excludes establishments processing 1,000 or fewer poultry raised by the operator. Such exempted poultry processors are not subject to additional state regulation and can sell poultry products directly to consumers.
